THE JEFF GRAYSHON MEMORIAL TROPHY

BRADFORD Bulls and Dewsbury Rams have announced that, going forward, they will be competing for the Jeff Grayshon Trophy in remembrance and recognition of the Rugby League legend following his sad passing this week.

Jeff Grayshon MBE began his career at Dewsbury, making over 200 appearances in a successful eight-year stay before going on to become a Bradford Northern legend – having played for the club throughout 1979-85, and then for a second spell in 1987, amassing over 102 points and 34 tries scored.

Jeff could really play anywhere on the field, he began at full-back before going on to become a forward later on in a career that saw him play until he was 45 years old.

Dewsbury Chairman Mark Sawyer said “Jeff Grayshon played with distinction for our club and was part of the 1973 Championship winning team. He will be held in the highest regard by all of us.”

Bradford Bulls Nigel Wood said “Jeff Grayshon was one of those ultra-consistent forwards around which Peter Fox fashioned his championship winning side. He played with flair and skill and it was no surprise when his country called, again in 1985. We are grateful that Jeff’s family have allowed the two clubs to celebrate his rugby life in this way.”

The inaugural Jeff Grayshon Memorial Trophy clash will take place on Sunday 25th April against Dewsbury Rams at the Tetley’s Stadium, 7:30pm kick-off.
