GALLAGHER TAKING POSITIVES FROM 'DREAM COME TRUE' DEBUT

BRAD Gallagher has described his first Betfred Championship appearance as a ‘dream come true’ – hailing the support of trio Leigh Beattie, Mark Dunning and John Kear.
The rising star – who featured under Beattie in 2019 – started in the second-row following an impressive pre-season campaign.
Gallagher made his first-team debut in the 1895 Cup trip to Barrow last June and is the latest talent from the Academy to make the step up to Kear’s side alongside Ebon Scurr.
The 19-year-old tells of the ‘overwhelming’ feeling seeing his name on the back of the shirt – insisting positives can be taken ahead of York this Sunday.
“I have started through pre-season which was a shock in itself so to walk in and see my name on the back of the shirt was a dream come true,” said Gallagher, who is sponsored by Vicki and Graeme Sharp.
“It was an overwhelming feeling and it is full credit to Leigh Beattie and Mark Dunning who have supported me in the Academy – and I thanked John [Kear] for giving me a shot and supporting all of the young lads in pre-season.
“I thought I did alright but there is a lot I have to improve on I am just focusing on improving every week to try keep my place in the team.
“We were disappointed to come away with the loss – the second-half especially we felt we got the better of them and deserved more for our efforts.
“We need to focus on our finish but we worked hard as the scoreline showed and we were raring to go in round one but we will look to see what we can improve on ahead of York.
“If we focus on working hard and becoming the hardest working team in the Championship we will pick up some good results along the way – now we focus on York and trying to put a number on them this weekend.”
Brad could make his second appearance of the season in this weekend’s trip to Bootham Crescent in the latest instalment of a burgeoning rivalry between Kear’s side and James Ford’s City Knights.
