THE STORY SO FAR

As the season heads to its halfway point, we are going to take a detailed view around our different squads here at the Bradford Bulls and see how they’ve been performing.

We start off with our new look Women’s squad, headed by coach Mark Seal and assistant staff Christian Moorhouse and Chris Ramsden, who started the season off with one victory to their name and four losses.

The Women’s squad went through several changes in the off season, with a number of outgoings and incomings in the playing staff and a focus on a younger squad, with Seal quoting a year three plan as he looks to the future with his squad.

Seal’s side started off the season with two disappointing defeats to St Helens and Wigan Warriors, before narrowly losing out to Huddersfield Giants in a close encounter where they lost out to a last-minute try.

Their first victory came against Warrington Wolves three weeks ago with a morale boosting 40 – 28 win, in which Jess Harrap scored a double for the Bulls, with Sarah Dunn, Stacey Greenwood, Grace Ramsden and Alice Fisher also scoring.

Moving onto the Academy side, coached by Head of Youth Leigh Beattie, they have endured a difficult start having lost a number of key players in the process which has hampered their development so far, with the team running Hull FC close despite missing eleven players due to injury.

They lost out 16-24 on Friday 18th June, despite missing several key players in key positions, but with the Academy side still impressing, players such as Joe Burton have found themselves in contention with John Kear’s first team side.

Finally, looking to the Scholarship side, coached by Ryan Hunkin, their record for 2021 currently stands at two wins and two losses, with the Scholars currently two games unbeaten after defeating Newcastle Thunder and London Broncos respectively.

Their first victory, over Newcastle Thunder came on the 2nd June 2021, in which Abdul Osman-Conteh scored the most eye catching try of the night, racing away 80 metres to touch down in an impressive 38-22 victory.

They then went onto record their second victory of the season a week later, as they ran out 32-24 winners over capital side London Broncos, with George Flanagan Junior catching the eye as he put in a man of the match performance, scoring one try and assisting Connor Sayner for a score.
