ON-LOAN three-quarter Sam Wood bagged a debut try as Dewsbury Rams ran Whitehaven close yesterday, before going down narrowly.
Wood, who joined Kingstone Press Championship partners Dewsbury on dual-registration terms last week, started on the wing for Glenn Morrison's side.
The Rams trailed by four points at half-time, but the 20-year-old helped inspire a late fightback as he touched down on the hour.
Dewsbury were eventually forced to settle for a bonus point, going down 40-34 in Cumbria.
Wood was drafted in to provide cover for the Rams and is in-line to feature for the second-tier outfit again this coming weekend, as Dewsbury take on North Wales Crusaders.
“Sam is a quality young player who has already made nine appearances for the Bulls in Super League, including five this season," said Rams coach Morrison.
“He will add vital depth to our squad, which is exactly what we need as we approach the critical stage of the season.”
Halifax-born Wood is being proudly sponsored by Helen Smith and Catherine Kendrick this season.
Meanwhile, Bradford Bulls return to First:Utility Super League action on Sunday, battling Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith's Stadiums.
