JAMES LOWES is taking the positives from yesterday's defeat to Warrington Wolves, insisting he is relishing the challenges ahead.
Coach Lowes, who took charge of his Bradford Bulls for the first time yesterday, saw his side finish strongly at the Halliwell Jones Stadium – in a 50-24 defeat.
Slow starts to the first and seconds halves ultimately proved the difference but the Bulls boss says he witnessed plenty of desire.
“I learned quite a lot but it is not all doom and gloom,” said Lowes, who is being proudly sponsored by UK Swim Stars.
“We were beaten by a very good side who put sides to the sword early on and they did that to us at the start of each half.
“There is plenty to be optimistic about, though, the boys showed plenty of fight and we looked very good with the ball in hand.
“We are in a battle – at the foot of the table – but we are ready for it.”
The Bulls trailed 16-6 at the break, with a late Brett Kearney try providing hope of a comeback.
But Warrington made a scintillating start to the second period, running in four tries – in the space of nine minutes.
Bradford refused to surrender, though, with Adrian Purtell, Tom Olbison and Jay Pitts all grabbing consolation scores, while Luke Gale landed four conversions from as many attempts.
“We made a few decent breaks and there are things to work on,” added Lowes, who took over the Bulls reins last week.
“I am very much looking forward to the challenge, as are the boys, so let's see where we are in a month's time.
“We will fight all the way to our last game, irrespective of our position.
“We played some good stuff but there are some massive areas we need to work on and that has not changed.
“There is no quick fix and I am not pleased, because we got beat in a rugby match, but it is all about putting things right. We will be trying to do that in the weeks and months ahead.”
Lowes' men return to First:Utility Super League action on Sunday, taking on Catalan Dragons at the Provident Stadium (KO 3.00pm).
