GREG BURKE has become head coach Francis Cummins’ second new addition in as many days, after agreeing a one-month loan deal with Bradford Bulls.
The Wigan Warriors forward has penned a short-term switch with the Provident Stadium outfit, placing himself in contention for Friday’s trip to Hull FC.
Burke, 21, appeared on 17 occasions last term for his hometown club and featured on the bench over the weekend as the Warriors swept aside Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Bulls boss Cummins said: “Greg is a player I have known for a long time, he is an impressive young forward.
“He is someone I have, in the past, looked to bring here on loan and I am very excited about what he could produce over the next few weeks or so.
“We believe he will prove a real handful for the opposition and he certainly adds a huge amount to our pack.
“I would like to thank Wigan Warriors and Shaun Wane for allowing him to come to us for a period. We hope to see him further improve with us here at the Bulls.”
If selected, Burke, who can play prop, second-row and loose forward, will don the No.27 jersey on Friday evening.
And Wigan chief Shaun Wane believes the youngster’s move will pay dividends for the Warriors and the Bulls.
“This is a good opportunity for Greg to gain some regular football at the highest level,” added Wane.
“He will come back to us in a month’s time, with some Super League game time under his belt.
“Greg is a valuable member of our playing squad but at the moment I can’t promise him a regular place in the side.
“But I think both him and the Bulls will benefit from this agreement.”
Burke has this morning begun full training with the club and looks set to feature in Cummins’ 19-man squad, which will be announced at 2pm, for Friday’s mouth-watering contest on Humberside.
