In a scrappy affair at Odsal Stadium, Bradford came out on top with a 32-12 victory as Dalton Grant struck three times to defeat Hunslet RLFC in the fourth round of the Betfred League 1 competition.
The Welsh-international crossed the line once in the first half and twice in the second to help give the Bulls a victory in their first home league game in nearly 190 days.
Grant’s tries, combined with a brace from Sam Hallas and a score from Dane Chisholm led to Bradford’s six-try victory over the South Leeds side.
Hunslet got off the mark quickly as they forced a Bradford error from the kick off and minutes later, scored down the left flank following a line break.
Shortly after Sam Hallas cropped up in the face of the Hunslet defensive line to Ross for two tries from dummy half and the Bulls on a roll.
The hooker added Bradford’s first points on the board as he scooped up the ball from acting-half and put his body through a jink in the Hunslet armour on the stroke of the 14th minute.
Just five minutes later the Leeds born playmaker emulated his efforts to give Bradford a lead they wouldn’t lose for the remainder of the game.
Dalton Grant joined Hallas on the scoreboard as the in-form winger took advantage of a handling error off the back of Joe Keyes’ fine cross-field kick.
The Hunslet winger fumbled the ball under pressure from Gibson and Grant, allowing the number five to fend off the tackler and dive over in the corner.
The Welsh-wizard struck immediately at the start of the second half; supplied by Joe Keyes once again. The duo linked up via a cross-field kick for the second time as Keyes floated the ball over to the right flank, enabling Grant to reap the spoils and stroll in.
Making his first start for the side since last year’s Summer Bash, Dane Chisholm worked closely with counterpart Joe Keyes and caused trouble for the Hunslet line with his quick dancing feet.
Working his way around two would-be-tacklers, the Aussie dangerman raced into the Hunlset line and stretched out to touch down for his first league try of the year.
It wasn’t long until the dynamic Keyes - Grant duo linked up for a final time to cap off a well-earned hat-trick for the winger.
As the game entered the closing ten minutes, Grant touched down for the final time as Joe Keyes once again lofted a perfectly weighted ball over the head of the Hunslet winger, allowing Grant to push the score further ahead.
The right boot of Joe Keyes proved influential once more, as the half-back knocked over his fourth kick right on the hooter after Ross Peltier battled against three tacklers to earn the penalty
