In Bulls Eye this week, Head Coach Francis Cummins looks ahead to Sunday’s Super League Rd 24 clash at the Provident Stadium against Catalan Dragons.
YOU MUST HAVE BEEN DELIGHTED WITH THE VICTORY AT WAKEFIELD.
“I was pleased with the effort we put in and the character we showed because we didn’t really play that well. In the first half we didn't get any kind of field position. We weren't getting any kind of rhythm but the character was there. Defensively there were negatives and we lost far too much possession needlessly in attack but, with the ball in his hand Keith Lulia, proved what a handful he is and he did really well with some short-side plays.
It was also very important because Wakefield were a point above us so it was a big win. It gives us another week in the race for the play-offs but we do need to improve and we need to ask more questions of the opposition.
It’s just a case of taking each game as it comes. We have been in a Play Off Football situation for a few weeks now. We had to beat Hull and we had to beat Wakefield and we did. We have just to keep picking these games off. We are still on track for where we want to finish and although we have had a tough couple of months it’s still in our hands.”
THE DRAGONS HAVE HIT A BIT OF A TOUGH PATCH OF LATE
“They have but we also had a tough patch in the last couple of months. We aren’t looking at that at all. They have a very big pack and they ask questions of you when that pack gets on top. They have some fine backs, such as Scott Dureau, Thomas Bosc, Leon Pryce and Morgan Escaret and they can all play when they are allowed to. We are expecting them at their best and we will have to be ready for them. ”
IS IT A TEMPTATION TO LOOK AT THE OTHER SIDE’S RUN INS AND COMPARE THEM TO YOURS?
“I suppose it’s only natural to do that but we can’t focus on that. I look at Catalans and they have a tough run in but we have too. I would probably rather have ours than theirs but if we don’t win our games then it doesn’t matter what they do. The equation is simple for us; win all our games and we will be in the Play Offs.
To get there would be a massive achievement. The club has not been there since 2008 and with what went on last year, with the Administration and how late we put the squad together, it would be tremendous. We haven’t got the biggest squad and we haven’t got what most other clubs have this season; the amount they have to spend but we are achieving. What we are doing at the moment is very, very good but to get to that goal would be great for the club and the players. “
Francis Cummins has named his Squad for Sunday’s game against Catalan Dragons.
Michael Platt, who comes in for the injured Adam O’Brien, is the only change to the squad from last week’s game against Wakefield. They Squad is:
