BULLS SUFFER INJURY SETBACKS

Bradford Bulls have suffered two major injury setbacks ahead of the new season with the news that both Scrum Half Luke Gale and Back Row Forward John Bateman will undergo surgery over the next few days.

Gale will have an operation on the ankle he damaged whilst will the England Knights on Wednesday and will miss the next eight weeks whilst Bateman will have a shoulder reconstruction on Monday and will be out for twelve weeks.

Gale had his foot immobilised immediately after suffering the injury but further scans have now revealed he needs an operation.  It is not the same ankle he damaged last season.  Bateman initially injured his shoulder at the end of last season and the prognosis was that rest would heal the injury but on resuming contact the problem flared up again and surgery is now considered necessary.

Bulls Coach Francis Cummins is disappointed with the news:

“It’s really disappointing for both players as well as the club.  Pre season training is going very well and to suffer these setbacks is a blow.  However it is better to find out now than at the start of the season and both players will be working hard to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
