Full Time Report

Bradford Bulls fell to an 18-36 defeat against Castleford Tigers in their opening game of the 2014 First Utility Super League campaign.

The Bulls got off to a good start but the clash proved to be a testing afternoon for Bradford as they came off second best to a tough Castleford side.

The Bulls raced into an early lead through a Danny Addy try, who, after a series of quick passes, was able to smash through the Tigers defence, with Jamie Foster then adding the extras to place the home side into an early 6-0 lead.

The Bulls defended well for the majority of the first half, however Castleford then broke through the defence in the 35th minute and Weller Hauraki touched down, with Kirk Dixon then adding the extras.

With the sides all square at the break, Bulls were first to score again, this time through Foster, who then successfully converted his own try to put the Bulls back in front.

Castleford hit back almost immediately with a try of their own through Dixon, who then added the extras to make the scores level once again.

Adrian Purtell, under pressure from the Tigers defence, rose to collect a high ball and then wrestled through the Castleford defence to touch down, with Foster again showing his accuracy by adding the conversion.

Daryl Clark then placed Castleford back level, as a smart move on the last tackle saw the Hooker coast over for a try with Dixon successfully converting to even the scores once again.

Castleford were then awarded a penalty  but Kirk Dixon failed to convert, keeping the scores level.

However it proved to be short lived as Justin Carney collected a high ball to go over and score for the Tigers, with Dixon, once again adding the extras to place Castleford in the lead 18-24.

It was then Castleford’s afternoon as they scored a further two tries courtesy of Luke Dorn and Grant Millington to give Castleford the win and the two points in the opening game of the season.
