JOHN Kear has hailed the spirit of his players and backroom staff following yesterday’s incredible comeback against Featherstone Rovers – with Jordan Lilley’s extra-time drop goal sealing the win!

A slow start saw the Bulls trail 14-8 at half-time – with a well-worked Ethan Ryan try preceding Elliot Minchella’s penalty.

Two Featherstone scores saw the visitors stretch out to a 26-8 lead with just nine minutes remaining before the comeback began.

Dalton Grant, Lilley and David Foggin-Johnston all scored in stunning fashion, with Minchella’s touchline conversion sending the game into golden point extra-time – with half-back Lilley sealing a sixth-round berth.

“We spoke about the fact it was trap door rugby – we knew it was going to be hard and we’d have to work our way through for 80 minutes but I didn’t think we’d give them an 18-point start,” said Kear, who is sponsored by Lowie Recruitment Int’l.

“The message went out to the players that there was 15 minutes left and they could do something about it [being 18 points behind] and is testimony to the spirit of the players and backroom staff.

“The players showed that spirit and they got the momentum, carried the ball harder and came up with the goods and our conditioning team deserve a huge pat on the back.

“They nearly got the biggest telling off since I came to the club but they turned it into a well done, your spirit is great but we have to be ruthless if we want to evolve.

“The players are finding a way to win games, I would prefer it not to be that way but while they are finding a way they are doing a good job.

“We are in the hat and are looking forward to the draw and I think the supporters would love to draw Leeds at home and it would be a great game for the players to play in.”
