YOUNG BULLS CONQUERED BY CATALAN

Bradford Bulls under 19s lost 46-12 to Catalan Dragons in a game which slipped away from that at the Provident Stadium on Saturday.

After a humbling defeat to City of Hull last time out, and with only two games left of the Academy Championship season, Leigh Beattie's side were out to produce a passionate performance against their French opponents.

Despite conceding two early tries, the young Bulls got their heads in the game and made their defensive presence known, as duo Elliot Culling and Jay Panter dominated the left edge with hard tackles and influential attacking runs.

This sparked the attacking confidence Beattie's side had been looking for, as stand-off Rowan Milnes twinkled his way past two Catalan defenders and clear 80 metres of the field, before being pulled back at the last second to deny what would have been a spectacular try.

Bradford pushed on and luck was on their side as the ball bounced in Culling's favour after tried to chip the ball out wide, leading to a comfortable try under the sticks.

Both sides then traded tries, with Bulls' coming from their reliable hooker, and Academy Player of the Month for July, Reiss Butterworth who prevailed through the onslaught of Catalan players to take his team into double figures, to make it 12-18 at half-time.

Unfortunately, this was where the game slipped away from the Bulls as they conceded five tries, and four conversions, without reply.

The game ended on a sour note as Catalan substitute Maximins Garcia and Jay Panter were both sin binned after a clash between the pair when Panter put Garcia in touch.

Bulls will be looking to win their final game of the season next week at home to London Broncos.
