MAGIC OF THE CUP INSPIRING LILLEY AND CO

JORDAN Lilley insists ‘anything can happen’ as John Kear’s Bradford Bulls travel to the Mobile Rocket Stadium looking for another Coral Challenge Cup upset in the form of Wakefield Trinity.

The 23-year-old was awarded man-of-the-match as the class of 2019 dumped Super League giants Leeds Rhinos out of the sixth-round stage last year.

The half-back impressed as Kear’s side made it three wins on the spin last weekend – scoring in the 28-0 shutout of Sheffield Eagles.

With aspirations of achieving something special – the former Stanningley amateur admits it will need a ‘10/10’ performance to do so.

“There is a real buzz around the place and we are looking forward to the game – last year against Leeds was very special and will live long in the memory, hopefully we can do something similar tomorrow,” said Lilley, who is sponsored by 39 Steps Consulting.

“We knew we had this form in us and it has happened around the right time so we are confident we will put in a good account of ourselves and if we come away with a win that will be a big bonus.

“It will give us a good indication of where we are at, they have danger all over the park and we will need to be 10/10 just to get near them – we will aim for that and give it our best shot.

“It is the magic of the Challenge Cup – anything can happen, it is knockout football and whoever turns up on the day will be in the next round.

“We are confident if we can do the right things and get ourselves in the right positions, putting Wakefield under pressure we might get something out of it.

“They are Super League for a reason but we go into the game confident and with aspirations of doing something special – if we did not have aspirations we would not turn up so we think we can go and get the victory but we will need to be 10/10 to stand a chance.”

Lilley has struck up an influential partnership with Rowan Milnes in the halves – with the duo involved in all five tries in the win over Sheffield.

The boot of Milnes assisted Bradford’s four other scores – leaving the half-back confident further improvement is around the corner.

“We are progressing – it is a young and new partnership. We are still learning there are things we need to do better and we will keep working hard,” said Lilley.

“When the tracks dry up we will see the style we want to play and It will excite many people, Rowan is a really good player on young shoulders”
