RETURNING front-rower Steve Crossley has spoken of his pride after pulling on a Bradford Bulls shirt for the first time in four years during Sunday’s victory over Doncaster, which provided his second club bow.

Crossley, 24, confirmed a return to his boyhood club last week, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal to become a Bull once again.

He spent three years in the Kingstone Press Championship, enjoying successful spells with Dewsbury Rams and Featherstone Rovers, before joining Castleford Tigers for this season.

However, with first-team opportunities proving few and far between, Crossley opted to return the Provident Stadium, Odsal.

And he was in back in Bulls action over the weekend, as Bradford downed winless Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“It was fantastic to get back out there, pulling on the Bradford jersey again was a very proud moment,” said the former Clayton amateur.

“When I walked into the dressing room and saw my shirt with my name on, there was a real sense of pride.

“In terms of the game itself, I think we made it a lot tougher than it needed to be but Doncaster played well.

“I am familiar with this division, though, it is incredibly tough and every game is a challenge.

“But we have shown we can score a lot of points. Granted, defensively there are areas to improve on but, offensively, we looked lethal at times.

“Winning ugly is a good habit to have but we will be striving to improve in order get back into First:Utility Super League, competing with the game’s very best.”

Crossley and his fellow Bulls return to Kingstone Press Championship action on Sunday, welcoming in-form Sheffield Eagles to the Provident Stadium for a crunch second versus third clash (kick-off 3.00pm).

HEAD coach James Lowes is calling for further improvement from his Bradford Bulls, despite seeing them overcome basement strugglers Doncaster – in their ninth-successive Kingstone Press Championship triumph.

Man of the match Lee Gaskell bagged an impressive hat-trick, with Etu Uaisele and Dale Ferguson notching up braces in a contest which saw front-rower Steve Crossley make his second Bulls bow.

Bradford led 34-16 at the break but were forced to battle hard late on in order to seal success at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“We did not operate at the levels we have set ourselves in previous weeks  and that was disappointing,” said Lowes, who is sponsored in memory of Joyce Dobby.

“We got the win and, in some respects, got out of jail because Doncaster performed admirably.

“There is certainly room for improvement, aspects of our game were way off the mark.

“We have looked to pride ourselves on our defence this year and, in most games, have kept our opposition to one score.

“But I felt we tired during parts of the game, coming off the back of a huge effort against Hull Kingston Rovers and a tough week of training.

“We will learn, though, and at the end of the day we came away with the win, which is the important thing.

“With Sheffield on the horizon, we have got to come some way in terms of getting our game right.

“But I am confident in our players’ ability and expect us to do so.”

Tickets for Sunday’s visit of Sheffield Eagles can be secured by CLICKING HERE, or calling a member of our team on 08448 711 490 (option 1).

Meanwhile, hospitality packages are now available for the round-11 clash, priced at £24.95 for members of The 1863 Club and £44.95 for non-members.

LEE Gaskell was the star of the show as Bradford Bulls stretched their unbeaten run to nine games, dispatching basement strugglers Doncaster in a dramatic 17-try affair at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Gaskell provided three scores, crossing either side of the interval, and James Lowes’ men were in control from the outset.

Despite Doncaster’s best efforts, the visiting Bulls were ahead from the start and at no point trailed their winless opponents.

Bradford were 34-16 up by half-time and, although the Dons got themselves back within range on more than one occasion, a strong finish was enough to ensure victory.
