BRADFORD Bulls have agreed the release of young front-rower Sam Bates by mutual consent.

The 19-year-old came through the club’s junior ranks and went on to make two Super League appearances for the Bulls in 2014.

He agreed a new contract with the club last August but has this season struggled with an ongoing ankle injury.

Managing Director Steve Ferres said: "We would like to thank Sam for his hard work throughout his time here and wish him all the best for the future."

Meanwhile, James Lowes' men return to action tomorrow night, welcoming Featherstone Rovers to the Provident Stadium, Odsal.

The rescheduled round-thirteen Kingstone Press Championship contest is to get underway from 8.00pm and you can secure tickets - and SAVE on gameday admission prices - by CLICKING HERE!

HEAD coach James Lowes was left feeling content yesterday following Bradford Bulls’ 34-16 victory over Batley Bulldogs.

The win, Bradford's 17th consecutive in the Kingstone Press Championship, lifted Lowes’ men into the top spot for the first time this season.

However, the new league leaders were made to work for the win against a struggling Batley side, desperate for the points.

“I thought it was a hard-fought win,” said Lowes, who is sponsored in memory of Joyce Dobby.

“We went through good periods and we went through poor periods but it was good to come away with a decent victory in the end.

“At certain times in the game, we needed to be better but we worked as hard as Batley and we made it difficult for them.

“Of course they are going to make it hard for us as well and they came here and refused to lie down.”

Injuries to a number of the Bulls’ half-back options forced Adrian Purtell into the halves but Lowes was pleased with his centre's performance.

“I thought Adrian did a solid job,” added Lowes.

“He did it without being overly flashy but he is not that sort of player.

“Also, it was Matty Blythe’s first 80 minutes for quite a long time and it was good to see him come through.

“I am very confident that the boys can step it up from here for the rest of the season and, first and foremost, Wednesday."

BRADFORD Bulls moved to the top of the Kingstone Press Championship after sealing a hard-fought victory over Batley Bulldogs this afternoon.

James Lowes’ men charged back from conceding an early try to establish a comfortable interval lead, much thanks to an Adam Henry brace.

The desperate Bulldogs kept themselves in the game for the majority of the second half but the Bulls’ class told as they pulled away during the final 10 minutes, thanks to a pair of Matty Blythe tries.
