SAM BATES is fully focused on securing a long-term future with the club, having enjoyed a taste of First Utility Super League action in recent weeks.

The 18-year-old front-rower made his first-grade debut last month and appeared from the bench, on Sunday, as Francis Cummins' men powered past Warrington Wolves at The Provident Stadium.

Halifax-born Bates, who is being proudly sponsored by Jennifer Bennison, has enjoyed his stint in the top flight and is hoping to see plenty more of it in the weeks, months and years ahead.

He said: “I really want to earn a full-time contract here. Since Marc Green has come in and the ownership issues have been resolved, the atmosphere surrounding the club has been so much better.

“I want to play in as many games as possible this year and keep training hard. I want to fight with the rest of the lads to ensure the Bulls retain their Super League status.

“I believe I can progress here as a player and now we have put together a string of victories, things are really looking up.

“I would love to do go on and have a big season next year.

“We might have had a bad spell but now we have pulled out a few good performances, I know we are capable of it week in, week out.

“The team has really pulled together despite the adversity it has faced. The mood in camp is great at this is a fantastic place to be.

“We believe we can overcome anyone, on our day.

“These are exciting times and everyone is relishing the prospect of St Helens on Sunday.

“We were the underdogs last weekend and we will be the underdogs, once again, this weekend.

“But we are not the type of team to let that faze us. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.”

Tickets for Sunday's visit of the Saints are available, priced at £20 (adults), £15 (concessions), £15 (students) and £10 (juniors).
