HALAFIHI AGREES CONTRACT EXTENSION

31 Jul 2015

VILA Halafihi has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the club, meaning he will be a Bradford Bull until at least the end of 2017.

The 21-year-old hooker is in his first season at the Provident Stadium, after arriving from NRL giants Penrith – where he represented the Panthers' Under-20s.

The former Leeds Rhinos Academy talent has made five appearances for the Bulls this season, including his first start of the season against Halifax last Sunday.

And Halafihi has spoken of his delight, having secured his Provident Stadium future.

“It feels really good to have tied my future down,” said Halafihi, who is sponsored by No Leaks.

“It means even more to be here at the Bulls – the club I have grown up supporting.

“I remember the glory days and I want to be part of the team that gets back into Super League.

“With Adam O’Brien already in the hooker position, I was under no illusions it was going to be hard.

“I have just stuck at it and had faith that my hard work would pay off.

“I have had a few opportunities this season and have just done what I can in those games.

“Fortunately, the club has seen enough to extend my contract.

“If I am called upon to come off the bench or, if Adam gets injured, I am confident I can bring a lot to the team."

Leeds-born Halafihi, who worked with Bulls head coach James Lowes during their time together at the Rhinos, paid special tribute to his boss.

“Jimmy has been one of the main factors in me re-signing,” he added.

“He has brought me on a lot this year, without me even playing much.

“I am pleased that the coaching staff has faith in me and it is good to know that I am going to be part of the plans going forward.

“This first year has been brilliant and I really want to stay at this club for as long as I possibly can.”

SOLLY EXPECTING BIG THINGS FROM THE BULLS

30 Jul 2015

BLAKE Solly is fully confident that Bradford Bulls can achieve an immediate return to the sport’s top flight in the weeks and months ahead.

James Lowes’ men begin their Super 8s campaign on Sunday August 9, taking on Sheffield Eagles at the Provident Stadium – in round one of ‘The Qualifiers’.

Solly is the General Manager of First:Utility Super League and spoke highly of Bradford’s chances at yesterday’s Super 8s launch in Manchester.

“With the resurgence of Bradford, the club has every reason to be really optimistic,” said the Australian, who has overseen the introduction of an exciting new structure for rugby league in 2015.

“The Bulls are still strengthening their squad going into the Super 8s and made another interesting signing on Tuesday.

“They have some big games early on and I feel the Wakefield one will be key to their success.

“They have every reason to go into it feeling pretty confident, wanting to win.

“And I think the Bulls have a really good chance of either going up or at least making it into ‘The Million Pound Game’.

“Bradford is a great club, which should be bringing big crowds to big events, and if they can get back up into Super League they will be a very welcome addition.”

Solly believes the fresh-look structure, which sees the sport’s top two tiers split into three groups of eight after 23 regular rounds of the season, is already proving a great success.

Anticipation is certainly high heading into a brand-new era for the 13-man game and Solly is expecting a hugely competitive season climax.

“We did a lot of hard work on the model to start with and we were always pretty confident but, until things start happening, you are never quite sure,” he added.

“You never pat yourself on the back too early but it has been a great season.

“The Kingstone Press Championship has probably been the one we did not expect to be as good as it has been.

“I think the Championship sides that go into The Qualifiers will be really competitive.

“Speaking to the Super League clubs, they know they are going to face really tough opposition each week and will have to be on top of their game to beat them, which is exactly what we wanted.

“The Super League clubs feel like there is something outside of Super League for them to be worried about.

“Super League should be something that people prize and it is hard to get into, so you have to work hard to stay in it.”

You can enjoy all of the Super 8s action, right here at the Provident Stadium, by securing a Route 66 pass TODAY!

Watch Lowes’ Bulls battle Sheffield, Halifax, Widnes and Salford on home soil for just £66 – that’s FOUR games for the price of THREE.
