ACADEMY DEFEAT WIDNES

A Hat Trick from Scrum Half Liam Kay helped the Bulls Academy to a 38-24 victory over Widnes Vikings at the Grattan Stadium.

Kay was outstanding throughout, showing guile and pace for his three tries and organising his sides attack with great aplomb.

The Bulls were on the score board within four minutes when outstanding Full Back, Ben Hellewell, made a forty metre break and Centre Rob Hawthorne was on hand to finish off the move under the posts.  Danny Addy converted and it looked like the Bulls would run away with the game, such was their early dominance.  Widnes hit back and had a try after good play before Kay scored his first with a fine individual run.

A series of errors and penalties began creeping into the Bulls game and Widnes, who had plenty of pace in their side, capitalised with three tries without reply to lead 18-10 at the break.

The Bulls came out strongly for the second half and with the Props, Lillycrop and the Burgess Twins, setting a fine lead, soon overpowered their opponents.  Tom Burgess crossed soon after the restart before Kay completed his hat trick either side of a Ben Hellewell try.  With Danny Addy converting one and Joe Wardle two, the Bulls had a 32-18 lead going into the final ten minutes.

Widnes had a late try from hooker Chris Lunt before George Burgess showed great support to score under posts and Wardle's conversion gave the Bulls a 38-24 victory.

The Back three of Danny Addy, Andy Tate and Tom Olbison were outstanding for the Bulls and there was a tremendous effort from Hooker Adam O'Brien.
