RESERVES GO DOWN TO SAINTS
Despite being level at 12-12 with only eight minutes emaining, the Bulls Reserves went down 32-12 to St Helens at the Grattan Stadium.
The Bulls fought strongly in the first half but with the scores tied at 0-0 in the thirty seventh minute their discipline cost them dear. Hooker Johnny Horton lost the ball over the line and protested so vehementally that he was sent to the sin bin. During the next three minutes Saints scored two converted tries and the Bulls went in a man down and trailing 12-0 at the break in a game they should have been winning.
The second period opened brightly for the Bulls when Duane Straugheir crossed in the opening minute and Kieran Hyde's conversion made it 12-6. A further score on the fiftieth minute to Matt Cook, who stole the ball in a one man tackle and romped over, brought the scores level. The Bulls had plenty of chances to increase the score but couldn't take them and a try on the hour gave Saints a four point advantage. The Bulls pressed strongly but great defence kept them out and it was Saints that finished the stronger with three tries in the last eight minutes to give them a 32-12 victory, which in no way reflected the closeness of the game.
