ACADEMY DEFEAT SAINTS AT THE GRATTAN STADIUM
A hat trick of tries to Full Back Ben Helliwell was the highlight as the Bulls defeated St Helens 38-30 at the Grattan Stadium.
Man of the Match Helliwell opened the scoring early in the game and he scored another fine individual try after Joe Wardle's try and goal had given the Bulls a 10-0 lead. Saints hit back but Helliwell's second try saw them leading 16-4 before a try off the last play of the half saw the score 16-10 at the break
Saints levelled immediately from the kick off before Matt Harding had a try out wide after a seventy metre mazy run from Hooker Jake Senior. Again Saints, who took advantage of the Bulls inability to ground the ball three times over the line, hit back to level it up at 20 all before Helliwell's third try and Ward's goal gave them an advantage. Wardle kicked a penalty after Andy Tate had had the ball stripped out near the posts and Harding's second try and a further converted try to Liam Kay set the Bulls on the way at 38-20. Saints, as they had done all day, came back and scored the last two tries for the game but it was not enough and the Bulls held out for their first win.
