Waggas Words Small

10/03/2010

I thought it was a great second half performance last week; in fact it was one of the best comebacks I have ever been involved in.   The situation of the game, the start that Wigan have had to the season, being 20-0 down with the quality of their side, made the comeback all the more remarkable and to go on and win the game late on shows the character and the team spirit and determination of the group of players we have got at Bradford.  More

Barry Garner - Obituary (17.10.32- 20.01.09)

Barry Garner was a life long supporter of Bradford Northern and Bradford Bulls having been brought by his father to Odsal as a small boy.

Barry had an interesting working career which took him all around the world and he lived for periods of time in Malaysia, Sweden and Belgium. He returned to Britain in the early 1980s and resumed his close association with Northern and subsequently became a shareholder in the club.

As Barry reached the end of his working life both he and Super League arrived at Odsal. Northern became the Bulls and Barry became a volunteer at the club and started a new phase of his involvement in the club.

Barry's contribution to the Bulls since the late 1990's was enormous. He dedicated a large portion of his free time working along side colleagues in the Community Department and particularly delighted in working with young people. His flare for figures came in to its own and he became the back stop on which everyone relied when preparing bids for funding or just maintaining statistics for the Department.

Latterly, Barry continued to be an active volunteer and was honoured with the award of ‘Volunteer of the Year' by the Foundation in 2008, an award that was renamed the 'Barry Garner Volunteer of the Year' posthumously.
