HUNSLET TEST TO READY RESERVES AHEAD OF NEW SEASON
LEIGH Beattie believes tomorrow's trip to South Leeds Stadium to face Hunslet RLFC will act as the perfect preparation for the upcoming season for his reserve grade side.
The return of reserve grade rugby reaped its rewards for Beattie and co. last year, providing the platform for the likes of Rowan Milnes and Matty Storton to make their senior bows in the red, amber and black.
A mixture of young and first-team talents will take to the field tomorrow afternoon, with Ashley Gibson and Mikey Wood notable inclusions from John Kear's first-team squad.
Beattie insists the benefits of reserve grade rugby are there for all to see and says John Kear's trust in youth has given his squad extra motivation ahead of the new season.
"We will see a real mix of first team players who need game time and younger players who will benefit from the experience play tomorrow," said Beattie, who is sponsored by
"By all accounts Hunslet will be fielding a strong side and we know how much of a test it will be especially for the younger lads.
"Ashley Gibson and Mikey Wood will both be playing to get more minutes and show John they are ready to be welcomed back into the fold and their experience will benefit the rest of the squad.
"At this stage it is all about performances and we want to see people playing smart, it is another example of how reserve grade rugby will benefit the progression of the younger players.
"John is not afraid to give the youth a chance in the first team if they are good enough and that is a real source of motivation for them.
"The rest is down the them and their attitude but with John watching on we will certainly have players playing to impress to stake their claim for a first team berth."
